1. About Life Was Here

Life Was Here provides tools that allow members to preserve and organize personal life stories, journal entries, photographs, videos, audio recordings, family relationships, timelines and other memories and information.

Life Was Here is not a permanent archival guarantee, genealogy records authority, legal records service, estate-planning service or substitute for independently backing up important documents and memories.

2. Account Eligibility

You must provide accurate information when creating an account and keep your account information reasonably current.

You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your password and login credentials and for activity occurring through your account.

You may not impersonate another person, create an account using false or misleading identity information, or use another person's account without authorization.

3. Free Trial

Life Was Here may offer eligible new members a 7-day trial. Trial features, storage limits and eligibility may differ from paid membership plans.

Trial offers may be modified or discontinued for future users. Any material terms presented to you when you begin a trial will apply to that trial.

4. Memberships and Billing

Life Was Here offers paid membership plans. Current prices, billing periods and plan features are displayed on the Membership page before purchase.

If you purchase a recurring membership, you authorize the applicable membership charge to be billed according to the billing period disclosed at checkout until the membership is canceled.

Payments may be processed by third-party payment providers. Life Was Here does not require you to send complete payment card information to us by email.

We may change prices or membership features in the future. Changes affecting an existing paid membership will be handled with any notice required by applicable law and the terms presented with the membership.

5. Cancellation

You may cancel a recurring membership through the cancellation method made available by Life Was Here or by contacting support when account assistance is required.

Cancellation stops future recurring renewal charges after the cancellation becomes effective. Your access may continue through the remainder of a period that has already been paid, subject to the terms applicable to your membership.

Refund eligibility, if any, is governed by the Life Was Here Refund and Cancellation Policy and applicable law.

6. Your Content

"Your Content" includes material you submit or store through Life Was Here, such as photographs, videos, audio recordings, journal entries, stories, family information, captions and other uploaded or entered material.

You retain your rights in Your Content. You do not transfer ownership of your personal content to Life Was Here merely by uploading it.

You give Life Was Here permission to host, store, process, reproduce and display Your Content only as reasonably necessary to operate, secure, maintain and provide the service and to carry out the privacy and sharing choices you make.

You are responsible for ensuring that you have the right to upload, store and share the content you submit.

7. Privacy and Sharing

Life Was Here provides privacy and sharing controls for supported features. Depending on the feature, you may choose to keep information private or share it with family, friends or publicly.

You should review your privacy settings before sharing information. Content you intentionally make public may be visible to people outside your family or personal network.

Our collection and handling of personal information is also described in the Life Was Here Privacy Policy.

8. Prohibited Content and Conduct

Life Was Here is intended for legitimate life stories, family memories and related personal content. You may not use the service to upload, distribute, promote or engage in content or conduct that:

• Is unlawful or promotes illegal activity.
• Threatens, harasses or intentionally abuses another person.
• Exploits or sexually endangers children or other minors.
• Contains unlawful sexually explicit or non-consensual intimate material.
• Violates another person's copyright, trademark, privacy or other legal rights.
• Contains malware, malicious code, automated attacks or attempts to compromise the service.
• Is used for fraud, impersonation, spam or intentionally deceptive activity.
• Attempts to access another member's private information or account without authorization.

9. Content Review and Account Enforcement

We may investigate reported or detected violations of these Terms and may restrict, quarantine, remove or disable access to content when reasonably necessary to operate or protect the service, enforce these Terms or comply with law.

We may warn, restrict, suspend or terminate accounts involved in serious or repeated violations, fraud, abuse, security threats or unlawful activity.

10. Storage and Backups

Membership plans may include storage or usage limits. Members are responsible for staying within the limits associated with their plan.

Although Life Was Here may use systems designed to protect and maintain stored information, no online service can guarantee that data will never be lost, corrupted or unavailable.

Members should maintain independent copies of photographs, recordings, documents and other irreplaceable material.

11. Service Availability

We work to keep Life Was Here available and functioning, but we cannot guarantee uninterrupted or error-free service. Maintenance, technical problems, security issues, third-party services or circumstances beyond our control may occasionally affect availability.

Features may be improved, changed, replaced or discontinued as the service develops.

12. Third-Party Services

Life Was Here may rely on third-party providers for services such as payment processing, hosting, database services, email, security or other technology.

Your use of certain third-party services may also be subject to their applicable terms and privacy practices.

13. Intellectual Property

The Life Was Here name, branding, website design, software and other materials provided by Life Was Here are protected by applicable intellectual-property laws.

These Terms do not give members ownership of the Life Was Here service, software, trademarks or branding.

14. No Guarantee of Permanent Preservation

Life Was Here is designed to help members preserve their stories and memories, but use of the service does not create a guarantee that any digital information will be stored permanently or forever.

Members should keep independent backups of material they consider irreplaceable.

15. Disclaimer

To the extent permitted by law, Life Was Here is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. We do not guarantee that every feature will always be available or that the service will be completely free from errors or interruptions.

Nothing in these Terms excludes rights or protections that cannot legally be excluded under applicable law.

16. Limitation of Liability

To the extent permitted by applicable law, Life Was Here and its owners, operators and service providers will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages arising from use of or inability to use the service.

Applicable law may provide rights that cannot be limited by contract, and this section does not limit those rights.

17. Closing or Terminating an Account

Members may request account closure using the account tools or support methods made available by Life Was Here.

We may suspend or terminate access when reasonably necessary for serious violations of these Terms, security threats, fraud, unlawful activity or protection of other members and the service.

Account closure, content deletion and retention may be subject to reasonable technical, security, backup, legal and recordkeeping requirements as described in our Privacy Policy.

18. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms as Life Was Here develops. When required, we will provide appropriate notice of material changes.

The "Last Updated" date at the top of this page identifies the version currently posted.

19. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Ohio, without regard to conflict-of-law principles, except where applicable federal law or another law that cannot legally be waived or displaced applies.
