Content Rules

1. Tell Your Story

Life Was Here encourages members to preserve genuine stories, photographs, family memories, journal entries, recordings, videos, family history and important moments from their lives.

Members may discuss difficult, emotional or painful parts of their lives. We do not require every memory to be happy or positive.

2. Respect Other People

You may tell your own story and describe your own experiences, but you may not use Life Was Here to threaten, harass, stalk, intimidate or deliberately abuse another person.

Do not publish another person's highly sensitive private information, such as passwords, Social Security numbers, financial account information or other information that could create a serious privacy or security risk.

3. Photographs and Videos

Members may upload appropriate photographs and videos connected to their lives, families and memories when they have the right to store or share that material.

Family photographs that include children, including ordinary childhood and baby photographs, may be permitted when they are appropriate and non-sexual.

4. Sexual and Exploitative Content

Life Was Here is not an adult-content or pornography service. Pornographic content and sexually explicit material intended primarily for sexual gratification are not permitted.

Sexual exploitation of minors, sexualized images of minors, child sexual abuse material and any attempt to solicit or distribute such material are strictly prohibited.

Non-consensual intimate images or recordings are also prohibited.

5. Illegal or Dangerous Content

You may not use Life Was Here to facilitate serious illegal activity, fraud, exploitation or deliberate harm.

Historical or personal discussion of difficult events is not prohibited merely because the subject involves crime, war, addiction, tragedy or another sensitive part of someone's life.

6. Copyright and Ownership

Only upload material that you own or have the legal right to store or share.

Do not knowingly upload copyrighted photographs, videos, music, books or other material when doing so violates another person's rights.

7. False Accounts and Impersonation

Do not impersonate another living person, create deceptive accounts, misrepresent your identity for fraudulent purposes or attempt to gain unauthorized access to another member's account.

8. Spam, Bots and Malicious Activity

Spam, automated abuse, malicious bots, phishing, malware, attempts to bypass security systems and attempts to disrupt Life Was Here are prohibited.

9. Public Legacy Profiles

Members who choose to make information public are responsible for reviewing that information before publishing it.

Private memories and account information are not intended to become public merely because a member uses Life Was Here. Public sharing should occur through the privacy and publishing choices provided by the service.

10. Reporting Content

If you believe content violates these rules, contact Life Was Here Support and provide enough information for us to locate and review the material.

A report does not automatically mean content will be removed. Reports may be reviewed based on these rules, our Terms of Service and applicable law.

11. Content Review

Life Was Here may use automated security systems and human review where appropriate to identify malware, prohibited material, abuse, suspicious activity or violations of these rules.

Content may be temporarily restricted or quarantined while a potential security or policy issue is reviewed.

12. Enforcement

Depending on the circumstances, Life Was Here may warn a member, restrict content, remove content, temporarily suspend an account, permanently terminate an account or take other reasonable action.

Serious safety threats, exploitation, fraud, malicious attacks or unlawful activity may result in immediate action.

13. Context Matters

Life stories sometimes include death, illness, military experiences, crime, historical events, grief, family conflict and other difficult subjects. Content will not be considered a violation simply because it discusses a sensitive subject.

When reviewing content, context, purpose and the way the material is presented may be considered.

14. Changes to These Rules

These rules may be updated as Life Was Here grows, new features are introduced or safety requirements change.

The Last Updated date at the top of this page identifies the version currently posted.
